@ The White Bear Theatre 2010

This glittering domestic comedy by Ben Jonson was revived as part of the White Bear’s Lost Classics Programme. Updated to the stylish 1930’s in the first ever professional UK adaptation of this little known lost classic.  The fabulously wealthy Lady Loadstone holds a dinner party to marry off her young niece Placentia Steele, who possesses a large dowry, which is kept in the tightfisted  hands of Sir Moth Interest.  With a motley assortment of gentlemen dinner guests in attendance, all motivated by either love or money, and a household of unmanageable servants, the outcome is a comic and complex tangle of misunderstandings, mishaps and marriages!  The Magnetic Lady sold to packed and overflowing houses during it's run at the White Bear making theatrical history as the first professional production for 350 years, it received many excellent reviews. Maggie Robson (right) received an off-westend nomination for best female performance off westend.
